Summit, the Academy of Interactive Arts Sciences added a new category to its annual awards, noting that Apple's App Store would be the first recipient of its Technical Impact Award. Games called Tail Drift has been released on the App Store as a premium title. Unfortunately the game has switched to a free to play model due to slow sales. With the game now being a free to play title, the Tail Drift mechanics have been slightly altered. Players will now require fuel to race, which can be bought or restored by waiting, the interface has been tweaked, the tour system has been changed to offer a more linear experience and some of the tracks have also been rebalanced.

Taiwanese indie studio HeatPot Games has released its turn-based, tile-matching JRPG Hero Emblems on iOS. You can purchase it on the App Store during its launch period at the discounted price of $2.99 before it goes up to its full price of $3.99. Hero Emblems puts you in charge of the four heroes that collectively make up the princesss armed guard. You have to take them on a quest across the games adventure map to rescue the kidnapped princess, finding a rumored cure for the dying king along the way, and eventually taking on the source of all these mishaps, the God of Evil.

Crossy Road is the endless-frogger sensation that has plagued and/or gripped the App Store since this past Fall or so, and now it makes its debut on the Google Play store. TouchArcade: It's still early in the year, and while there were a few gems that hit the App Store last week, we're always liable for a slow period around this time of year. As such, when an indie RPG sneaks out mid-week, and for free, we might as well check it out, eh? Mounting Force: The Awakening [Free] is a free, ad-supported real-time RPG, the debut title from Deprecated Software. I'm not going to mince words: this game is ugly. I don't want to be mean, but it is. The production values are definitely lacking here, there's visual judder all over the place (the bad kind of screenshake), and the script is riddled with typos.
